Who am I?
Kia ora everyone! My name is Mikey and this is my second year as a blog commenter for the Summer Learning Journey programme and Uru Mānuka team. I have just completed the third and final year of my Bachelor of Education degree and am looking forward to having a classroom of my very own next year. I have lived in Auckland for the last three years, but I am originally from a small coastal town in the Bay of Islands called Russell. Russell is surrounded by beautiful beaches and is steeped in rich New Zealand history, which made it a wonderful place to grow up. I was lucky enough to live within 5 minutes’ walk of the ocean which meant that a lot of my childhood was spent in, on and around the water. I credit my love of any and all water and beach-based activities to that. Two of my most favourite things are travel and sports, and earlier this year I was able to combine the two when I travelled to Japan for the Rugby World Cup.
